ART AND MUSIC FESTIVAL 2007 Well, what a wealth of talent – both amateur and professional - we have seen at the Art and Music Festival held at St Peter’s Church over the last weekend in April. Our local ‘home grown’ talent was very evident by the superb photographic and art displays produced by all ages, from Applepips, The Brownies, The Primary School to individual contributions by more senior members of the village. Keith Dobney, a former professional photographer, judged the art and photographic entries and commented he thought the standard of work was extremely high. Graham Tufnail won the best in exhibition with a stunning photograph of clouds and the top children’s entries were awarded certificates.
The event kicked off on Friday evening with a Concert of Voices given by some members of Huntingdonshire Music School. They certainly have some gifted students. Our own villagers made their musical and literary contributions on Saturday afternoon, which included readings and poems, ranging from Shakespeare to Carl Sandburg.
The Church was open for most of the weekend and it was a pleasure to see visitors wandering in and out to enjoy the recitals and the artwork on display. The building looked particularly stunning after its redecoration with lovely flower arrangements and bonsai trees to enhance the appearance. For those who weren’t able to visit over the weekend you missed so much.
For many of us, the highlight of the Festival weekend was Saturday evening’s ‘Jazz in the Aisle’ performed by the Willingham based band ‘Flip, Flop & Fly’. These are 3 (or sometimes 4) extremely talented professional musicians, led by Steve Lockwood, who has a music degree, specialising in the harmonica. They are an absolutely dynamic and versatile trio whose musical and singing performances included a range of popular music from the last 100 years – blues, jazz, soul, funk and rock’n’roll. It was very nearly dancing in the aisle on Saturday evening! |
