RESUME OF REPORT MADE BY COLIN SHEARER OF THE CHURCHES
CONSERVATION TRUST FOR FRIENDS OF ST PETER’S AGIM HELD ON
13TH JUNE 2008
• March 2008 – CS and Crispin (Chief Executive of CCT) visited St Peter’s
Church. They met up with Rev Ally Barrett, Debbie Gillbanks and Michael
Barimore.
• It was noted that Theresa Goble’s baby grand piano was being moved from
Abbotsley Church to St Peter’s.
• CS proposed that the Friends of Abbotsley and St Peter’s churches could get
together – perhaps a sponsored cycle ride.
• CS & Roger Simmons acknowledge and thank FOSP for they are doing to fulfil
the potential of St Peter’s church to play a key role in the community, particularly
by bringing benefits, including enjoyment and learning to many local people,
including young people, and those from further afield, in an ambitious and
harmonious way.
• CCT also acknowledge that FOSP is going a long way to sustain the future of the
building, which is cared for so much.
• CCT thanks FOSP for continuing to take the initiative at a time when CCT has
been short on staff resources in the area/region.
• Details to be announced shortly of new appointments to provide local support
across the region, together with the appointment of 4 new regional managers
across England.
• The regional managers will have a brief to make stronger connections with county
& regional agencies and funding bodies. Also support & develop a community-
based approach to the future of the churches, including developing local plans for
churches to pool resources towards a shared vision.
• CCT generally is in good heart – 5 new Trustees + newly appointed Chairman,
Lloyd Grossman.
• Future funding for next 3 years to be discussed in July by Church of England
synod & it is hoped it will be matched on same basis as before.
• CCT trying new approaches to fundraising – including Gift Aid, local & regional
Trusts, wall safe, event income and contributions from Friends.
• Project planned over next 3 years to try and engage young people & young adults,
aged 16 to 25, in volunteering, e.g, Skills & Service sections of D of E.
• Website – promote links to Friends websites.
• Sunday Telegraph & Sunday Times are running features on churches – as
influenced by CCT.
• Churches Tourism Association convention to be held in November in Swanwick,
Derbyshire – sponsored by CCT.
